Representatives of biotechnology centres from all over Germany met at the Biomedical Centre Dortmund (BMZ) on 18 March 2025. They exchanged ideas as part of the meeting of the "BioParks Working Group" of the Federal Association of German Innovation, Technology and Start-up Centres (BVIZ).

Among other things, the BMZ focused on the topics of rental models and energy management as well as the organisation of the joint stand at the German Biotechnology Days, which will take place in Heidelberg on 9 and 10 April 2025.

Centre for Integrated Drug Discovery Dortmund

Dr Joanna Stachnik, head of the BMZ and deputy spokesperson of the BioParks working group, introduced the guests to the Biomedicine Centre Dortmund and the Centre for Integrated Drug Research Dortmund (ZIW). The ZIW is being built on the Dortmund Science and Technology Campus and is part of the Biomedicine Centre Dortmund. It will provide start-ups and technology companies with highly specialised development and laboratory space on a rental basis for technology transfer in the field of biotechnology and, in particular, drug development.

About the BioParks working group

The BVIZ BioParks working group is an association of currently around 30 German biotechnology centres with a total of over 350,000 m² of rental space. The working group, which has been in existence since 2005, deals with the special challenges faced by companies in the life sciences sector.

The Federal Association of German Innovation, Technology and Start-up Centres (BVIZ) was founded in 1988 and today has over 150 German technology and start-up centres as well as science and technology parks as members.
